But as mentioned, cocoa butter is often associated with lip treatments, because it is an ingredient very present in the INCI lists of these products. Given its nourishing power, balms to moisturize such a delicate area of the face, are widely used especially in winter, when dryness and chapping are the order of the day.

How to make homemade cocoa butter
The lip balm it is a valid ally against dryness and skin dryness, especially in the cold season. But if we don’t want to buy traditional cosmetics, which often also contain chemical ingredients and potentially irritating substances, we can do it ourselves and make natural cocoa butter at home.
Cocoa Lip Butter with Shea and Olive Oil
- 1 part organic cocoa butter
- 1 dose of organic shea butter
- ½ part olive oil
The first step is to dissolve a water bath the two butters in a saucepan, then adding them to the olive oil, which can also be replaced by that of argan or rosehip. If we wish, we can add a few drops of vanilla essential oil to flavor our conditioner.
After mixing the mixture in a glass or ceramic container, wait until it is cold before closing it and storing it in a cool place in the house.

- 1 tablespoon of beeswax
- 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
As in the previous recipe, heat the butters in a saucepan so that they melt, then pour them into the final container. Also in this case we can add an essential oil of our choice to give an aroma to the cocoa butter.

DIY coconut oil lip balm
If we want a lip balm without cocoa butter or beeswax, you can use coconut oil and shea butter, very easy to find online too. As always, let the ingredients melt in a bain-marie and optionally add an essential oil to flavor.
Finally, we pour the mixture into the final container and wait until it is cold before closing and storing in a cool, dry place.
How to make sticky cocoa butter
For hygienic reasons, the ideal container for our lip balm is glass or ceramic, which is easy to wash before use. But you can also recycle old plastic lipstick sticks. This way we will have a cocoa butter to put in your purse and use when needed.
First, let’s make sure the container of the stick is working, after which let’s clean it of any lipstick residue, finally let it soak in soap and water. With a clean toothbrush at this stage, we remove all the remnants of the old product from the crevices, then let it dry.

If we are following a vegan lifestyle, we can instead use candelilla wax, totally vegetal. Also in this case, it is advisable to dissolve it and add an oil such as coconut oil, before letting it cool and applying it if necessary. The lips will be delighted.
DIY Cocoa Butter Face Cream
If the climate is attentive to the health of our face, a cream with cocoa butter this is what is needed to restore nutrition and prevent cracking. Here are the ingredients and steps for a good lotion. To our taste then the addition of other butters, moisturizing oils and aromatic essences.
- ½ cup shea butter
- 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil
- 1 tablespoon cocoa butter

- 1 tablespoon beeswax or candelilla
- 2 tablespoons cocoa butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 15 drops of argan oil
- 1 teaspoon calendula oil
The first step is always to melt the wax, cocoa butter and coconut oil in a saucepan over a double boiler, mixing thoroughly to avoid lumps. Then we transfer the mixture to a cup and mix with argan and calendula oil.
Then pour into the clean glass or ceramic container and wait for it to cool before closing it and storing it in a cool, dry place.
Once the ingredients have hardened, scoop out a small amount of product and heat it in the palm of your hand. Then it becomes easy to spread and apply the cream on the skin of the hands evenly.
