I Primi d’Italia returns to the center of the world: in Foligno the National Festival of First Courses with a parade of stars and endless culinary specialties

From Thursday September 29 to Sunday October 2, 2022 in Foligno, Umbria, the 22nd edition of I Primi d’Italia takes place, the first and only national festival dedicated to first courses, which returns to its original format.

(TurismoItaliaNews) From three-star Michelin chef Mauro Uliassi, to actress and model Eleonora Pieroni, from journalist and presenter Tiberio Timperi to influencer Friar Enzo Fortunato; passing through the A1 volleyball players from Bartoccini-Fortinfissi Perugia to the great Italian actress Eleonora Giorgi. These are just some of the big names that will take to the stage at I Primi d’Italia from Thursday September 29th to Sunday October 2nd. Four days of continuous tastings, distinguished guests, cooking classes, demonstrations by top chefs, quality food productions, but also moments of entertainment and entertainment. Aldo Amoni, president of Epta Confcommercio Umbria, the service company that has always promoted and organized the I Primi d’Italia event, illustrated the main events of the festival and presented the big stars that will arrive in the Umbrian city. With him also Eleonora Pieroni, the mayor of Foligno Stefano Zuccarini, the president of the Umbrian Chamber of Commerce and Confcommercio Giorgio Mencaroni.

Pasta, rice, soups, gnocchi, polenta but also the food products essential to creating a tasty starter, are the protagonists of the most appetizing culinary marathon in Italy. This is why the return of the villages of regional taste is eagerly awaited. Eleven this year, including one completely gluten-free. Here you can taste many starter recipes, typical of the different Italian regions, served continuously in the suggestive Baroque taverns of the city scattered around the historic center. Apulian specialties can be tasted at the La Mora tavern, while Sardinian dishes at the Cassero tavern. With a great spirit of solidarity, Lazio will be represented by the town of Amatrice, present with its premiere at the Giotti tavern. But Roman dishes will also be served at the Contrastanga tavern. And again: the specialties of Mantua can be tasted at Ammanniti; the Umbrians to the Pugili; those of the Marche coast at La Spada; the Maremma went Morlupo; the Piedmontese at the White Cross; those from the Alps and gluten-free at La Badia.

But before the official start of the event, I Primi d’Italia will offer a great preview dinner, scheduled for Wednesday, September 22, at the “Generale Ferrante Gonzaga del Vodice” barracks, headquarters of the Selection and Recruitment Center of the national army. An exceptional place to get to know each other better and pay homage to a fundamental institution for the city of Foligno, also from an economic point of view. The godmother of the evening will be the actress Martina Marotta.

We have said of the big names who will parade in Foligno for the festival dedicated to pasta and pasta dishes. Of course, the great starred culinary professionals could not be missing, starting with chef Mauro Uliassi who will perform during a cooking demonstration “in search of perfection” (September 29). In the Santa Caterina auditorium, other chefs will offer starters accompanied by prestigious wines: there will be Marco Lagrimino from the L’Acciuga restaurant in Perugia (Thursday 29), Errico Recanati from the Andreina restaurant in Loreto (Friday 30 September) and Katia Maccari from Les Salotti del Patriarca di Querce al Pino, in Chiusi (Saturday October 1).
Other well-known personalities from entertainment, sport and culture will be present to receive the I Primi d’Italia prize which will be awarded to Nicoletta Spagnoli, Eleonora Pieroni, Tiziana Trasciatti and Stefano Chiocchini, on Friday 30; Tiberio Timperi, Father Enzo Fortunato and Bartoccini-Fortinfissi Perugia, Saturday October 1; Eleonora Giorgi and Massimo Martelli, Sunday 2. There will be representatives of the institutions, with the mayors of the three largest cities of Umbria who will compete in a culinary competition.

Compared to the usual program of the event, the 22nd edition of I Primi d’Italia will also offer special events. In addition to the preview dinner at the Gonzaga Barracks, the G20 pasta G20 will be held at the City Hotel on Friday, September 30, during which food and wine journalist Luciano Pignataro will coordinate a meeting to reflect on the state of health of the symbolic product from Italy. The same day, Barilla evening with midnight spaghetti, garlic, oil and chilli, in Piazza Garibaldi. Saturday October 1, at 10 p.m. in the San Domenico auditorium, Riso Scotti evening with a cabaret show by Dario Cassini and risotto tasting. Finally, Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m., in the Santa Caterina auditorium, lunch with the Buffycats on the occasion of Grandparents’ Day.

Grandmothers are also protagonists with workshops reserved for children and teenagers aged 6 to 11, during which they can play, handle and try their hand at making fresh pasta. And then more exhibitions and markets with the best creations of Italian crafts and agri-food, from the Pasta Boutique where you can find all kinds of pasta, in Piazza Repubblica, to the Atelier del Gusto in Palazzo Trinci , from Mediterranean delights in Piazza Matteotti to street food in Piazza del Grano, to name a few.
